Maui and Molokai helicopter tours, pricing and reviews

Posted: July 24th, 2018 | Comments Off

An aerial view of a waterfall from the Hana Coast.

We continue our Hawaii helicopter series with a look at the tour companies in Maui and Molokai. Generally, Maui helicopter tour options are:

  • Hana coast
  • West Maui mountains
  • Haleakala
  • Molokai sea cliffs, which are some of the tallest in the world
  • A combination of the above

We list the least expensive tour option for each tour company. Be sure to explore the websites for the tour companies so that you know all the options.

Sunshine Helicopters
Website: Sunshine Helicopters
TripAdvisor reviews: link
Current pricing: starts at $210 for 40 to 50-minute tour.
Notables: Sunshine offers an option to upgrade to “first class” seats which are on the front row of the helicopter beside the pilot.

Maverick Helicopters
Website: Maverick Helicopters
TripAdvisor reviews: link
Current pricing: starts at $299 for 50 or 75-minute tour.
Notables: Maverick is a relatively new comer to Hawaii.

Blue Hawaiian Helicopters
Website: Blue Hawaiian
TripAdvisor reviews: link
Current pricing: starts at $259 for 50-minute tour.
Notables: Unfortunately, Blue Hawaiian had a fatal accident during one of their tours to Molokai in 2011.

Pacific Helicopters
Website: Pacific Helicopters
TripAdvisor reviews: link
Current pricing: starts at $289 for 45-minute tour.
Notables: Pacific tours are on “doors off” helicopters, which offer the best view for photography.

Hawaii Helicopters
Website: Hawaii Helicopters
TripAdvisor reviews: link
Current pricing: starts at $250 for 45-minute tour.
Notables: Hawaii Helicopters is relatively new.

Air Maui Helicopters
Website: Air Maui
TripAdvisor reviews: link
Current pricing: starts at $253 for 45-minute tour. (See notables for potential lower deals for Costco members.)
Notables: Sometimes Costco has special deals for Air Maui helicopter tours. Check this link for possible deals. Air Maui offers an option for “doors off” tours, which are best for photography. We have taken a tour with Air Maui and were disappointed to be assigned the seats beside of the window/door that had a sliding pane, which obscured our view. (See a photo showing our window view.) Also, that side of the tour did not offer as many views of the island based on the path the tour takes. When we expressed our disappointment, the representative from Air Maui didn’t care. So, needless to say, we don’t recommend them.

Notes:

  • All pricing was accurate as of July 2018. The starting costs that we’ve listed should provide a general comparison of pricing between companies. Pricing is always subject to change, so check directly with the providers for their current pricing.
