Amazing whale watching with Maui Sailing Canoe

Posted: January 26th, 2016 | Comments Off

We’ve just returned from another great trip to Maui and we’re still in awe of the amazing whale watching experience we had with Maui Sailing Canoe.

From Polo Beach in Wailea, we helped push out the traditional-style Hawaiian sailing canoe, the Hina, to the waters edge. Our expert guides, Donnie and Keoni, carefully watched the waves coming in to instruct us when to safely board the canoe. This experience was an exciting mini-adventure in itself.

Honu in Honolua Bay

Honu in Honolua Bay

I had read that Honolua Bay is a great snorkeling site, but it wasn’t until my most recent trip to Maui that I got to experience it. Is it a great snorkel spot? Absolutely! I’d even go so far as to say it’s one of the best we’ve experienced. Beyond the numerous tropical fish, we also saw many honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles), eels and a large octopus.

The Teralani...

Mahalo to Edward Michaels for sharing this amazing photo with us for Aloha Friday Photos. He took this photo on January 4th at Makaha Beach Park on West Oahu.

Wow! The winter swell and waves must have been strong that day from this view of the powerful shorebreak.

In summer months, the surf is generally pretty calm at Makaha Beach — calm enough for swimming and snorkeling as Ken tells us in his article about uncrowded...

Timeless Luxury at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel

Posted: January 6th, 2016 | Comments Off

When we stepped into the lobby of the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, we immediately sensed the history of this elegant, fifty-year old resort. There’s something about it that’s both nostalgic and timeless. If walls could talk, we would have loved to strike up a conversation, or as they say in Hawaii “talk story”,  with the walls of Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. We’re certain that we’d be entertained for hours with stories of delighted guests, celebrities and special events celebrated here.
