Take me there Tuesday: Hanapepe, Kauai

Posted: February 5th, 2019 | Comments Off

Historic Hanapepe is a charming town the southwest side of Kauai. You’ll likely pass through it on Highway 50 on your way to and from Waimea Canyon. (See this Google Map with Hanapepe identified.) Though small, Hanapepe does have a few attractions making a stop here worthwhile.

One of Hanapepe’s most famous landmarks is their historic swinging bridge that connects the two sides of the Hanapepe River. This suspension bridge was originally built in 1911 and then rebuilt in 1992 after sustaining damage in Hurricane Iniki.

Aloha Friday Photo: Sandy Stretch

Mahalo to Rebecca Moore for sharing this Aloha Friday Photo. Rebecca’s photo was taken near the Hilton Hawaiian Village, which is the widest stretch of sandy beach in Waikiki. That’s why we titled this one Sandy Stretch.

Based on the lighting, this photo appears to have been snapped around sunset. The final rays of the day are painting the clouds and the sand with a pretty pink glow.

Happy Aloha Friday!

Visiting Historic Haleiwa, Oahu

Posted: January 29th, 2019 | Comments Off

The famous Haleiwa sign.

The North Shore of Oahu is one of our favorite spots on the island. The beautiful beaches and laidback vibe are so welcoming.

Haleiwa is the biggest town on the North Shore. As you make your Oahu vacation plans, it’s worth spending some time in Historic Haleiwa for shopping, dining and enjoying a shave ice. Of course, Haleiwa Beach Park is quite nice as well.

Waipio Valley

We had a superb tour of Waipio Valley with Waipio Valley Shuttle in October. Everyone in our group of six loved it.

Don’t let the name fool you. It’s far more than just a shuttle service. It’s a fully-guided tour.

The four-wheel drive van with open windows used for the Wiapio Valley Shuttle Tour.

Review: Thrilling, doors-off Oahu helicopter tour with Magnum (P.I.) Helicopters

Posted: January 15th, 2019 | Comments Off

Oahu is beautiful to see from ground level, but viewing it from the air adds a whole new level of fascination. We gained a new appreciation for the island as we soared above with Magnum Helicopters.

On our way to our helicopter tour, we were absolutely giddy with excitement. Of course a helicopter tour is exciting enough, but we were about to ride in the same helicopter that’s used in the new Magnum P.I. television series! We kept...

Aloha Friday Photo: Molokini Crater

Posted: January 11th, 2019 | Comments Off

Mahalo to Codi Rothgarn for sharing this nice shot with us for our Aloha Friday Photos series. Codi’s photo is of Molokini Crater, which is a few miles off the south coast of Maui. Only a crescent-shaped section of Molokini extends above sea level. This bird and marine sanctuary is an excellent snorkeling spot, which is one of the top activities that we recommend in our week-long Maui vacation itinerary.
