Aloha Friday Photo: SPAM Breath Mints?

Posted: December 30th, 2011 | Comments Off

Hot off the heels of yesterday’s post about SPAM flavored mac nuts, we have yet another wacky, new SPAM product – SPAM mints. That’s right – SPAM mints!

Our Oahu pal, Dave, sent today’s photo. He spotted this display of SPAM mints on his way out of the store. He said that the cashier gave him a sample to try and he liked it.

Now, at first glance...

SPAM Flavored Macadamia Nuts — Would You Try Them?

When we were visiting Big Island last month, we popped into the visitors center at the Hamakua Macadamia Nut Company to see and taste new flavors. We were amused when we saw SPAM flavored mac nuts. With Hawaii being known for producing yummy macadamia nuts and Hawaii’s long standing love affair with SPAM this flavor was a perfect marriage.

I posted the above photo on our facebook page while we were at the Hamakua store. To my surprise, the...

Posted: December 23rd, 2011 | Comments Off

Most of us on the mainland will purchase a poinsettia this time of year for the holidays. We typically care for the small plant indoors for a few months. Then, we’ll thank the plant for its display before sending it on the compost. That’s why it’s so surprising for us visitors when we see large poinsettias bushes growing outdoors in Hawaii.

Around this time of year in Hawaii, you’ll see outdoor poinsettia bushes  loaded with bright blooms. They appear to love Hawaii’s tropical environment.

Today’s Aloha Friday Photo was shared by Janet from New Mexico....

Today, numerous small streams of lava were cascading over the sea cliff, and lava entering the water was starting to build a small delta.

The ever changing lava activity on Hawaii’s Big Island creates news options for lava viewing. As reported last...
